So price the device onto the shop's own inland marine or tools-and-equipment policy before purchase, and factor that premium into the first-year cost. Then ask whether the €260 service-contract insurance discount has any North American equivalent, because on the published evidence it doesn't.
The learning curve is the steepest in the templating category, and the vendor's own accessory list shows why A third-party review of the category puts basic countertop templating proficiency at 3 to 4 weeks and full 3D and CAD integration at 2 to 3 months, and calls it 'the steepest learning curve of any common templating system'. But that source sells a competing product, so treat the figure as directional. The vendor's own material corroborates the direction rather than the number: German training runs as a 2-day basic course plus separate focus courses, on-site individual training bills at €1,120 a day, staircase work explicitly requires two days, and the North American team runs a standing programme of monthly continuing-education webinars on topics as basic as 'Editing walls not at 90 degrees and window returns'. And a tool that needs a recurring webinar on non-square walls isn't a tool a new hire picks up in an afternoon. So decide who the dedicated templator is before you buy, not after, and budget their ramp as lost production. And if templating duty rotates across the crew, the ramp cost recurs with every rotation and the rig will be operated at a fraction of its capability.
The companion app has a visible regression pattern on the camera The Flexijet Smart Remote app is how a one-person crew operates the device from across a room, and the camera in it is what links site photos to precise points in the CAD model. The most recent public review of the app is one star and reports the camera being broken by successive updates. And there's very little independent review volume to weigh this against: the app carries 4.2 stars from 5 ratings on the German App Store storefront and shows no ratings at all on the US storefront, so a single negative report moves the whole picture. The English product page says only that 'Through a variety of export interfaces, the data can be transferred directly to your CAD software', and the German page adds 'optionale Schnittstelle direkt zur CNC-Maschine' without naming any partner. And the only countable list anywhere on the vendor network is a logo strip on the Australian distributor's site: twelve named targets (AutoCAD, PYTHA, Microvellum, SketchUp, Revit, ArchiCAD, Rhino, Staircon, Compass, PaletteCAD, SEMA and IFC) followed by an explicit 'and more' graphic, so even that list isn't presented as exhaustive. So name your exact downstream package and version on the demo call and make the distributor demonstrate the handover live, not describe it. 'All common CAD software' is a claim, and the manufacturer has never published the list that would let you check it.
One more thing worth knowing. The one published price is explicitly non-binding, and the North American terms put any dispute in Delaware. The CA$33,250 is a marketing figure, not a quote. And nothing on the site survives into the purchase agreement, so every number that matters (system price, what training is included, extended warranty cost, annual calibration cost, loaner availability) has to appear in the written agreement or it doesn't exist.
One more thing worth knowing. There's almost no independent review volume on this product anywhere, and the little that exists concerns the phone app rather than the device. A buyer can't triangulate this purchase from public reviews the way they could for a SaaS tool, and the vendor's own site supplies the testimonials that fill the vacuum. So reference calls with named users in the same trade are the only independent evidence available, not a nice-to-have. Ask the distributor for two fabricators running comparable work and call them.
One more thing worth knowing. Getting data out is easy; getting the annual service done is the part that strands you. So plan the calibration window around the slow season and confirm the North American depot location before purchase, because a mail-in service measured in weeks with the customer carrying transit risk takes the shop's only templating rig out of production. And nail down the loaner arrangement in writing at the same time as the purchase price.
One oddity, filed under things nobody mentions on a demo. Flexijet publishes its prices in German and withholds them in English, on the same pages of the same site. An English-speaking buyer walks into the negotiation blind while the vendor's own German pages set the anchor. So read the German pages through a translator first, then quote them back. And the €889 and €1,290 numbers are the vendor's own published list, not a rumour.

Proliner (Prodim). Costing roughly half to three quarters of a Flexijet 3D first-year outlay while specifying the same +/- 1/32" accuracy, with a moderate rather than steep learning curve. And for a shop whose work is mostly 2D templating with occasional 3D, the accuracy is identical and the ramp is shorter. But Only moderate 3D capability, export-based rather than direct CAD integration, and a 50 ft measuring range against Flexijet 3D's reported 300 ft, so large commercial spaces need multiple setups.
LT-2D3D (Laser Products Industries). Cheapest entry into digital templating by a wide margin, lightest to carry at roughly 8 lbs against Flexijet 3D's ~25 lbs with tripod, and quick to learn. And for the standard residential kitchen and bath work that makes up the bulk of countertop volume, it does the job. But Coarser accuracy at +/- 1/16", only basic 3D, export-based CAD handoff, and no rear projection, so it cannot mark installation points back onto the site.
Second-hand Flexijet 3D. Getting the identical hardware for a fraction of the CA$33,250 new price. And the used-machinery index values a Flexijet 3D at €7,500 to €10,000, which is roughly a quarter of new, so the depreciation curve works strongly in a second buyer's favour. But No included warranty, no bundled advanced on-site training, an unknown calibration history on a precision optoelectronic instrument, and the FlexiCAD version question: a used unit on an old FlexiCAD may need the €2,190 upgrade or a €1,290-a-year service contract before it's current.
SlabWise. Attacking a different failure mode entirely. It's software that verifies templates, nests slabs and quotes, so it catches the operator judgement errors that no measuring device detects, at about one percent of a Flexijet 3D purchase. And it offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card. But It doesn't measure anything. And a shop still needs a templating device, so this is a complement or a redirection of budget rather than a substitute, with the source page being the vendor's own marketing for it.
Leica Geosystems DISTO handheld laser measure. Cost, by three orders of magnitude against a new Flexijet 3D. For a shop whose real problem is transposed digits on a tape measure rather than curved geometry, a handheld laser distance meter removes most of the arithmetic error for almost nothing. But It produces distances, not drawings. There's no CAD model, no photo documentation, no rear projection, no automated measurement series and no surface scan, so every point still has to be drafted by hand afterwards.

Who should not buy Flexijet 3D
Don't buy Flexijet 3D if you're A one to three person shop templating standard rectangular residential kitchen and bath tops, with no curved, mitred, clad or full-wall work in the mix. The entire premium is for full 3D capture and direct CAD integration, and a square kitchen doesn't use either. A CA$33,250 rig plus a per-year cost to keep the software current, aimed at work that a far cheaper 2D templating system handles at the same quoted accuracy, won't pay back on residential-only volume. And the category review is blunt that most countertop-focused shops are better served elsewhere. Look at LT-2D3D (Laser Products Industries) instead.
Don't buy Flexijet 3D if you're A shop with no CAD seat and no CNC downstream, where the templator, the programmer and the fabricator are the same person. Flexijet 3D's output is a CAD drawing, and its value proposition is that the drawing is finished on site. So if nobody downstream opens AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Rhino, PaletteCAD, Compass or Staircon, the shop is paying for an interface it never uses, and it still has to absorb a 3 to 4 week learning curve on the most complex system in the category before the first job. Look at Proliner (Prodim) instead.
Don't buy Flexijet 3D if you're A buyer outside the EU who is counting on manufacturer-backed insurance and same-week calibration turnaround. The Flexijet Electronics Insurance is restricted to customers with a registered office in an EU member state, so a North American shop can't buy it at all, and the calibration turnaround the vendor publishes (roughly 7 to 10 days) is measured within Germany. And a third-party review flags exactly this as 'German support infrastructure' where 'warranty service and technical support involve international coordination'. The long measuring range and the change-of-location workflow (re-orient off two shared reference points and keep drawing) mean whole floors land in a single CAD drawing, which is exactly the problem on a hotel lobby or a commercial kitchen. And rear projection is worth more again at this scale, because marking thousands of fixing points from the drawing rather than from a tape is where the labour saving compounds. At this size a second unit is also defensible, since licensing follows the device. EU-based shop of any size that wants manufacturer-backed cover and fast calibration
Only under conditions, and they are worth being honest about. An EU buyer gets materially more product than a North American one: the electronics insurance is available at all, the service contract discounts it by €260 a year, calibration turnaround is the published 7 to 10 days rather than an international shipment, and the German-language pages publish the prices instead of routing to a distributor. But the condition is the two year minimum on the service contract and the €500 deductibles on most insured events. No. The whole value chain ends at a CAD file. So if no one opens AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, PaletteCAD, Compass or Staircon, and nothing is cut on a CNC, then the shop has bought a very expensive way to produce a drawing it will print and measure off by hand. A number worth thirty seconds before you buy Flexijet 3D
We should declare an interest, or rather the absence of one. Fervor takes nothing from Flexijet 3D or any of its rivals. What we've got is data on the demand side.
Flexijet 3D asks a kitchen, bath or stone shop for CA$33,250 before the first template, and then asks for €1,290 a year to keep software the vendor advertises as subscription free, all to remove one category of error: the measurement that comes back wrong and eats a slab. And that's a shop willing to spend serious capital on right-first-time. But the same shop then routes every homeowner and every GC through a quote form on its own website, and across the 380 contractor sites Fervor inspected, 95.8% carried a serious WCAG violation, most of it landing on exactly those form controls (unlabelled fields, unreachable submit buttons, error messages a screen reader never announces). Flexijet 3D engineers the error out of the measurement and the shop leaves it in the enquiry, which is the one place where a failure costs a job that was never quoted rather than a slab that can be recut.

What does a Flexijet 3D cost?
The vendor publishes exactly one figure: CA$33,250 for a complete system in Canada, covering the device, the carbon-fibre tripod, the case and accessories, the software, a one year warranty and advanced on-site training. For the United States the same page declines to price and says 'Pricing is localized, contact us and we'll provide a precise price for you.' A third-party category review estimates $20,000 to $35,000 for hardware and $25,000 to $44,000 all-in for the first year, but that source sells a competing product and labels every line an estimate, so treat it as one opinion rather than confirmation. And be careful with figures circulating online: a widely repeated '$24,900 in the US' doesn't appear in the raw HTML of the vendor's pages or of that review, and was discarded from this bank for that reason.
Is the software really subscription free?
The initial licence is included in the purchase, so there's no subscription to use the version you bought. But staying current is a different question. In Germany the vendor states that keeping FlexiCAD4 means either continuing a service contract for two years at 1,290 € plus VAT annually, or paying 2,190 € plus VAT once for the upgrade of an existing licence. The Australian distributor describes an 'annual Service Agreement' that includes software updates and annual hardware calibration. So the software is subscription free in the sense that it will not switch off, and not subscription free in the sense that version currency and calibration both carry a recurring bill.
What happens if I skip the service contract?
You still owe the calibration. The German hardware service page prices an annual technical inspection, maintenance, cleaning, calibration and battery conditioning at 889,– € net (1.057,91 € gross including 19% VAT) for a customer without a contract, and shows the same service as 'inklusive (jährlich)' for a customer with one. The contract is 1,290 € a year. So the contract costs about €401 a year more than the calibration you were going to pay for anyway, and in exchange it adds all further FlexiCAD4 updates, telephone and e-mail support, and €260 a year off the electronics insurance premium. And skipping the contract to save money is close to the worst-value decision available.
Can I try it before buying?
You can try half of it. FlexiCAD4 is a direct 526.7 MB download that runs in full for 30 days free after a one-time company-key request by e-mail, so the drafting, editing and export side is fully testable without talking to a salesperson. But the measuring hardware can't be trialled that way, because FlexiCAD with no Flexijet head attached is just a CAD package with nothing feeding it. And Flexijet North America runs a rental programme with short-term rentals and loaner units, which is the practical route to putting the actual device on a real job before committing.
Does it connect to my accounting or job-costing system?
No, and nothing on the vendor network suggests otherwise. Every interface Flexijet and its distributors describe points at CAD, CAM or CNC: the Australian distributor's summary is 'Interfaces to all common CAD software and CNC equipment.' And there's no accounting, ERP, CRM or estimating connector. So the CAD file is the handoff, and whatever quoting or costing system sits downstream of that file is where the numbers enter the business.
Which CAD packages does it hand off to?
Flexijet GmbH itself publishes no list, saying only that data transfers 'Through a variety of export interfaces'. The only countable list on the vendor network is a logo strip on the Australian distributor's site naming twelve targets: AutoCAD, PYTHA, Microvellum, SketchUp, Revit, ArchiCAD, Rhino, Staircon, Compass, PaletteCAD, SEMA and IFC, followed by an explicit 'and more' graphic. ArchiCAD appears to go further than file export, because the vendor's manual library lists a separate 'Flexijet 4ARCHICAD' product at version 27. And stair packages Compass and Staircon are the ones the vendor calls out by name, and it warns that stair handover needs the two-day training track rather than the one-day.
How accurate is it, and how does the vendor's own claim read?
The German site states 'more than 0.9 mm 3D precision (at 10 m distance)', which is awkward wording for what it means (better than 0.9 mm, not worse). Flexijet North America renders the same spec in imperial as '1/32" total accuracy at 30ft (better than 0.9mm at 10m)', and a third-party category review puts it at +/- 1/32", the same figure it gives the Proliner. But worth knowing: the vendor's claims aren't consistent across its own network. The German site advertises 'over 3,500 devices worldwide' and 'up to 600 % efficiency gain'; the Australian distributor's page shows '3,250 Global Installations' and '345% Increased Efficiency' from the same 75% time-saving baseline.
Can I insure it through Flexijet?
Only if your business is registered in an EU member state. The Flexijet Electronics Insurance covers theft, damage and destruction, and service contract holders get €260 a year off the premium, but the eligibility line is unambiguous: 'Insurance cover can only be taken out for customers whose registered office is in an EU member state.' Deductibles where it does apply are €500 for negligence or clumsiness, €500 for overcurrent, induction or short circuit, €500 for malicious acts and vandalism, and 10% of the total damage with a €500 minimum for burglary or robbery. Fire, lightning, explosion, tap water, storm and hail carry no deductible. So a North American shop needs to insure the device on its own commercial policy.
