Best Local SEO Agencies for Contractors in 2026

Ten local SEO agencies ranked on map-pack results and service-area coverage for contractors, not generic small business packages.

Screenshot of the Contractor Marketing Pros homepage, one of the agencies ranked in this article

Search "local SEO agency" and Google hands you a map pack of local SEO agencies. Which is funny for about four seconds, because those firms are ranking for themselves in their own city against other agencies. That's a different fight from a roofer holding one of three map slots in a metro with eleven competitors and a franchise buying Local Service Ads on top. So this ranking asks the narrower question. Who gets you into the pack, keeps the Google Business Profile accurate, cleans up the citations, builds service-area pages a homeowner can read, and gets reviews moving? Organic blog content is a different job. Paid ads are a different job again, and plenty of firms ranking for "local SEO services" are really selling Google Ads management. Ten firms below, each with the limitation it carries. Fervor Studio, which published this, sits at No. 2, and the methodology at the bottom explains how that was scored.

Ratings act as a filter before they act as persuasion, and 68% of consumers will only consider a business rated 4 stars or better.

The 10 local SEO agencies, ranked for contractor fit

Every entry links to a deeper head-to-head in our agency guide. And local search gets ranked separately from everything else for one reason: the pack is where the phone calls come from.

"40% of home services consumers who call from search make a purchase. Consumers searching for plumbing, appliance repair, and fencing services are most likely to call after making a search."

Google (via Invoca) (2025)

Four out of ten, on a search-driven phone call. No blog-post funnel gets anywhere near that. So when you're evaluating a local SEO agency, the question isn't how many keywords they'll rank you for. It's whether the work ends at the ranking or continues to the call.

References outweigh anything you write about yourself, with 64% of homeowners calling them a top-three factor in choosing a contractor.

No. 1 · Best for pure map pack and Google Business Profile execution

Contractor Marketing Pros

Screenshot of Contractor Marketing Pros's homepage in 2026

U.S.-based (national) · Small to mid-size team · Home services only · Local SEO, GBP optimization, Local Service Ads, PPC, web design

This is the narrowest local-search specialist in the pool, and narrow is the point. Google Business Profile optimization, Local Service Ads, the Maps three-pack. They've packaged it as a Contractor Conversion Framework™ and claim an average 287% organic traffic increase across their client base.

Where they're strongest: The specific problem of being invisible in your own zip code. Half-finished profile, missing service areas, no photos since 2021, LSA budget burning with nothing to show. They don't pretend to also be a brand agency.

What to consider: Pricing isn't published, so the budget conversation happens after the sales call. And the 287% figure is self-reported with no stated methodology or sample size. Ask what the median client saw, not the average.

Best for: Contractors whose problem is map pack invisibility rather than an underperforming website.
Deep dive: Contractor Marketing Pros vs. Fervor Studio

Answering matters as much as ranking, and 18% of home services calls go unanswered on weekdays against 41% at weekends.

No. 2 · Best local SEO tied to a published contractor scoring framework

Fervor Studio

Cochrane, AB · Contractor-only, national (US-first) · Publisher of the Contractor CRO Index (n=380)

Screenshot of Fervor Studio's homepage in 2026

Fervor isn't a citation-building shop, and that matters before you read another line. The Contractor CRO Index scores 380 contractor websites against a published framework, and the State of Roofing, State of HVAC and State of Remodeling reports break the failure patterns down trade by trade. So Fervor's role in a local search program is the diagnostic half: what the profile click lands on, and where the booking path leaks.

Where they're strongest: The Site Inspection returns a specific list of structural gaps in about three days, scored against the same framework the public reports use. Booked by Design™ runs $9,997 to $19,997 by trade over 30 to 60 days. The Leak Plug Sprint is $4,997 in 30 days. Every price is published, which is rarer on this list than it should be.

What to consider: Fervor is contractor-only, so it's the wrong call for anyone outside home services. And the diagnostic-led model moves at a different pace than a 200-person retainer or a dedicated citation factory. If what you need this quarter is somebody grinding through four hundred directory listings, that isn't the shape of this engagement.

Best for: Contractors who already rank locally and want to know what the traffic hits when it arrives.
Deep dive: Booked by Design™ · The Site Inspection

Even a warm referral gets checked, because over 60% of homeowners research online before making contact.

"Even among homeowners who received a word-of-mouth referral, over 60% do due diligence online before deciding to contact the pro."

Houzz Inc. (2025)

No. 3 · Best for Google Maps SEO paired with a conversion-shaped rebuild

Hook Agency

Minneapolis, MN · 55+ employees · Home services only · 4.9 stars across 174 Google reviews · Inc. 5000

Screenshot of Hook Agency's homepage in 2026

Google Maps SEO is a named service line at Hook, sitting alongside SEO, PPC, LSAs and web design. Founder Tim Brown keynotes at Roofcon and AHR and hosts podcasts for roofing and HVAC, so if you've been in the trades a while you've heard the name in somebody's truck. That visibility isn't decoration. The local strategy gets built by people who were in the room when contractors argued about what rings the phone.

Where they're strongest: Local search attached to a site built to convert, rather than bolted onto whatever WordPress theme you already had. A 4.9-star average across 174 Google reviews is a strong signal at that volume, and it's the same signal they're building for you.

What to consider: Hook doesn't publish pricing, so you're into a sales conversation before you know the range. And the centre of gravity is traffic generation across SEO, PPC and web design, not local search as a standalone discipline. If your GBP is the only broken thing, you may be buying a wider retainer than the problem needs.

Best for: Roofing, HVAC and remodeling contractors at $3M+ who want Maps work and a rebuild from one team.
Deep dive: Hook Agency vs. Fervor Studio

Nobody reads a service page start to finish. About 79% of users scan it, and only 16% read word by word.

"79% of test users always scanned any new page they came across; only 16% read word-by-word."

No. 4 · Best for running listings, reviews and GBP in-house from one dashboard

Surefire Local

Screenshot of Surefire Local's homepage in 2026

Austin, TX · Mid-size · All-in-one local marketing platform (SEO, listings, reviews, social, ads) · Platform subscription plus optional managed services

Surefire Local isn't structured like an agency. It's a platform pulling listings, reviews, social, local SEO and ad campaigns into one dashboard, with managed services available on top. Their published verticals include HVAC, roofing and plumbing. So it answers a specific question: you already have somebody handling marketing internally and they're drowning in six logins.

Where they're strongest: Consolidation, and the review side in particular. Review requests, review monitoring and listing consistency are the three tasks that die fastest in separate tools, and this is one place to do all three.

What to consider: A platform is only as good as the person driving it, and that person is you. Surefire also serves beyond home services, so the defaults aren't trade-specific. And the subscription-plus-optional-services shape means your real annual number depends on how much of the managed layer you end up buying.

Best for: Contractors with a marketing coordinator on payroll who want central control instead of six vendors.
Deep dive: Surefire Local vs. Fervor Studio

"Displaying five or more reviews on a product page lifts conversion rates by up to 270% compared to product pages with zero reviews."

Spiegel Research Center, Northwestern University (2017)

Spiegel measured that on retail product pages, not roofing service pages, so don't take the 270% to the bank. But the direction transfers, and it's why review velocity keeps showing up as a line item on local SEO proposals. Five reviews is a low bar, too. If your profile has eleven and the shop across town has two hundred and forty, the map pack isn't your only problem.

Placement decides what gets read, with 57% of viewing time above the fold and 74% inside the first two screenfuls.

"57% of page-viewing time is spent above the fold, and 74% of viewing time is spent in the first two screenfuls."

No. 5 · Best for citation building and local rank tracking you control yourself

BrightLocal

Screenshot of BrightLocal's homepage in 2026

Brighton, UK · 150+ employees · Local SEO platform · Platform from $29/mo, citations $2 each, managed SEO from $1,299/mo

BrightLocal is the toolbox a lot of the other firms on this list are quietly using. Local rank tracking by zip code, citation building, review monitoring, local search reviews. Their scores are consistently high everywhere that collects them: 4.6 on G2 across 228 reviews, 4.8 on Capterra across 281, 4.6 on Trustpilot across 752, and 4.8 on Google across 366.

Where they're strongest: Citations, at a price that makes the math trivial. Two dollars a citation and $29/mo to start means you can clean up name, address and phone consistency across the directory layer for less than one service call. And the rank tracking tells you whether any of it moved.

What to consider: It's software, not a service. Nobody reads your data for you or tells you which citation mattered. There are no contractor-specific insights baked in, support runs out of the UK, and the managed SEO tier starting at $1,299/mo is a generic local product rather than a trade-specific one.

Best for: Owners who want to run their own local SEO, or verify what an agency says it did.
Deep dive: BrightLocal vs. Fervor Studio

Load time is the cheapest fix on this list, and 53% of mobile visitors leave a site that takes more than 3 seconds to appear.

"53% of mobile users abandon sites that take longer than 3 seconds to load."

Google and SOASTA (2017)

No. 6 · Best for mechanical trades who want local search plus reputation management

Plumbing & HVAC SEO

Screenshot of Plumbing and HVAC SEO's homepage in 2026

U.S.-based · Small to mid-size team · HVAC, plumbing and electrical only · Nexstar partner · Inc. recognized three consecutive years

They work with HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies and nothing else, and the Nexstar partnership is what separates them. Nexstar is the largest coaching and training network in the mechanical trades, so this agency sees what the top-performing shops in the network do operationally, not just what ranks. Their stack covers SEO, Google Maps, Google Ads, Facebook Ads and reputation management.

Where they're strongest: Reputation management sitting inside the same retainer as Maps and local SEO. In the mechanical trades, review volume is the ranking factor and the closing factor at once, so one team owning both is a structural advantage. Three straight years of Inc. recognition says their own business isn't wobbling.

What to consider: The trade scope is a hard boundary, so a roofer, remodeler or landscaper is out. Pricing isn't published. And since the stack mixes paid and organic, ask what share of the retainer funds local search versus ad management, because those two lines behave nothing alike when you pause them.

Best for: HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors, especially Nexstar members.
Deep dive: Plumbing & HVAC SEO vs. Fervor Studio

"When looking for pros, homeowners' biggest struggles are: finding someone they trust (48%), getting clear/detailed proposals (34%), and timely/accurate communication (30%)."

Houzz Inc. (2025)

Trust is the top struggle for almost half of homeowners, and the pack is where it gets resolved or abandoned. Star rating, review count, recency, photos, hours, whether anybody replied to the angry one from March. So local SEO is really trust engineering with a ranking side effect, and agencies that treat reviews as an afterthought are solving the smaller half.

Accessibility failures are close to universal, detectable on 96.3% of the top million homepages.

"96.3% of the top 1 million homepages had detectable WCAG 2 failures."

WebAIM (2025)

No. 7 · Best for electrical contractors who want GBP wired into the CRM

LeadsNearby

Screenshot of LeadsNearby's homepage in 2026

U.S.-based · Small to mid-size team · Electrical and home services · Local SEO, Google Business Profile, LSAs, email, web design, CRM integration

LeadsNearby positions itself as the number one electrical marketing agency and reports an 88% lead increase in one month for electrical clients. More interesting than the headline is the CRM integration. They wire local search results into your pipeline data, so you can see which map pack call turned into a panel upgrade and which turned into nothing.

Where they're strongest: Attribution. Most local SEO reporting stops at rankings and call volume, which tells you activity happened but not whether it paid.

What to consider: The number one claim is self-described, not awarded. And 88% in one month is a short window with no stated baseline or client count, so read it as a best case. Pricing isn't published either, which puts three unknowns on one discovery call.

Best for: Electricians who already run a CRM and want local search tied to closed revenue.
Deep dive: LeadsNearby vs. Fervor Studio

No. 8 · Best for restoration companies who need local calls, not impressions

Peterson SEO

Screenshot of Peterson SEO's homepage in 2026

U.S.-based · Small team · Restoration only · SEO, PPC, web design, Google Business Profile · Restoration Domination System™

Restoration is its own animal, because the search is an emergency and the decision window is minutes. Peterson works only in that lane, running what they call the Restoration Domination System across SEO, PPC, GBP and web design. Their reported numbers are specific rather than vague: a 158% keyword increase, 981 local visits, and 163 calls in 30 days.

Where they're strongest: Reporting on the metric that matters. They lead with calls, and 163 calls in a 30-day window is a number a restoration owner can check against the phone log. The GBP focus fits the trade, because an emergency searcher rarely scrolls past the pack.

What to consider: Small team, narrow vertical, so if you also run roofing or general contracting under the same roof, part of your business sits outside their scope. Pricing isn't published. And those results are the agency's own reporting on their own clients, without sample size.

Best for: Restoration companies competing on emergency local search.
Deep dive: Peterson SEO vs. Fervor Studio

No. 9 · Best for HVAC contractors who want Maps moving inside a quarter

Netrocket

Screenshot of Netrocket's homepage in 2026

U.S.-based · Small team · HVAC only · Clutch Top HVAC SEO Company 2025 · Local SEO, Google Maps, Google Ads, YouTube Ads, LSAs, CRM

Netrocket was named a Clutch Top HVAC SEO Company for 2025, which is third-party recognition rather than a self-awarded badge, and that alone puts them ahead of several louder shops. They report 85% of clients seeing measurable growth within 90 days and a headline case study at a 453% organic traffic increase. The channel spread is wider than most HVAC specialists too, with YouTube ads and LSAs next to Maps work.

Where they're strongest: Speed and channel coverage. An 85% rate inside 90 days suggests the local playbook is systematized rather than improvised, and in a seasonal trade where a slow spring costs you the whole year, that window matters.

What to consider: HVAC only, on a small team, so capacity is fair to ask about before you sign. The 85% and 453% figures are the agency's own, published without sample size or methodology. And pricing isn't public.

Best for: HVAC contractors who need local visibility moving before the next demand spike.
Deep dive: Netrocket vs. Fervor Studio

No. 10 · Best for Canadian contractors who need local market depth

Green Lotus

Screenshot of Green Lotus's homepage in 2026

Toronto, Canada · Mid-size, multi-team · 1,100+ home improvement and small business clients · SEO, PPC, local SEO, web design, content, lead generation

Green Lotus is one of the larger Toronto shops serving Canadian contractors, with 1,100+ home improvement and small businesses on the book and a self-described position as the number one contractor SEO agency in Canada. You can decide how much a self-proclaimed ranking is worth. The client volume is real, and it comes with pattern recognition you can't fake: which neighbourhoods over-perform, what GBP work moves in Canadian markets, how provincial rules and seasonal swings change the calendar.

Where they're strongest: Canadian local market depth. Serving that many home improvement businesses means watching local search behave across hundreds of Canadian postal codes, which a US-based agency doesn't pick up quickly.

What to consider: It's a volume model, so standardized playbooks run across hundreds of sites rather than a bespoke strategy on yours. And the whole offer is traffic generation, so if the booking path is the bottleneck, more local traffic won't change the math. Worth asking on the call: how many other clients will my account manager carry?

Best for: Canadian home improvement contractors who want local search volume without a dedicated strategist.
Deep dive: Green Lotus vs. Fervor Studio

"68% of consumers will only use a business with a rating of 4 or more stars."

BrightLocal (2026)

"64% of homeowners say having recommendations or references is a top-three factor in choosing a contractor."

Houzz Inc. (2025)

Ranking in the pack is the first half. The second half is what happens on the phone.

Here's the uncomfortable part of hiring a local SEO agency. The agency's job usually ends at the click, and the click is worth nothing on its own. Fervor scored 380 contractor websites for the Contractor CRO Index, and across all three published trades the local search work and the trust work run on separate tracks.

Take testimonials. Across the 380 sites in the combined State of the Industry group, 45% surface a customer testimonial anywhere. By trade it splits hard: 52.9% of HVAC sites, 48.6% of remodeling, and only 34.6% of roofing. So two out of three roofing companies are asking a homeowner to trust a five-figure decision with no named customer voice on the page the map pack sent them to. The GBP half of that work, plus the citation and review-velocity mechanics an agency should be running, is written out on the contractor SEO guide.

That gap is expensive because of what a local search call is worth. It isn't a lead in the way a downloaded PDF is a lead.

"Phone calls convert to 10-15x more revenue than web leads for home services businesses. Callers convert 30% faster than web leads. Caller retention rate is 28% higher than web lead retention rate."

BIA/Kelsey + Forrester (2025)

Ten to fifteen times the revenue, closing faster, sticking around longer. Which is the strongest argument for local SEO anybody has made, and also why the next number stings.

"18% of home services calls go unanswered on weekdays, while 41% go unanswered on weekends. Each unanswered call is revenue left on the table and a lead handed to a competitor."

Invoca (2025)

Four in ten weekend calls go unanswered. No local SEO agency fixes that, and the honest ones will say so on the first call. But name it before you sign anything, because ranking third and answering the phone beats ranking first and going to voicemail on a Saturday in July.

There's a related oddity in the tenure data worth a tangent. The median roofing brand in the group has been in business 40.5 years. HVAC sits at 41.5, remodeling at 39. These are not new companies. And yet the founding year, the thing that carries enormous weight with a nervous homeowner comparing three profiles, is often buried or missing.

Four decades of work, and it doesn't reach the two lines a homeowner skims before deciding who to call. That's a positioning problem living on the same page the ranking sends people to, which is exactly why the two halves of this job keep getting sold separately and shouldn't be.

How to pick the right local SEO agency for your contracting business

Local SEO buyers sort into three paths, and picking the wrong path is a more expensive mistake than picking the wrong firm inside the right one.

Path 1: You are genuinely invisible in the pack

You search your own service plus your city and you're not in the three-pack. Your Google Business Profile has the wrong hours, no service areas defined, four photos from 2019. This is the cleanest version of the problem, and it's what Contractor Marketing Pros, Hook Agency and Netrocket are built for. If you'd rather do it yourself, BrightLocal at $29/mo plus $2 citations gets the directory layer consistent for the cost of a tank of diesel. One caveat: whatever you fix in the profile, a mobile homeowner sees the site next.

"48% of customers say that if a site does not work well on mobile, it signals the company does not care about their business."

Google Consumer Insights (2018)

And that mobile session is not the exception any more.

"91% of U.S. adults own a smartphone; overall U.S. internet traffic: desktop 55.93%, mobile 41.95%, tablet 2.04% (January 2026)"

Pew Research Center (2025)

Path 2: You rank fine and the phone still doesn't ring enough

You're in the pack. You show up for the service-area terms. Traffic looks healthy in Search Console and the booked-job count hasn't moved in eight months. So the answer isn't more local SEO, and any agency selling you more of it here is selling the wrong thing. What you want is a diagnostic on the landing experience. That's what the Site Inspection produces, and the CRO Index statistics page lists the failure patterns it screens against. LeadsNearby's CRM attribution helps too, because it shows where in the pipeline the local traffic evaporates.

Path 3: You need local search and reputation handled together

Your review count is thin, the last one is eleven months old, and the two-star from a warranty dispute is the first thing anybody sees. Reviews are a ranking input and a closing input at once, so this path wants one team on both. Surefire Local fits if you have somebody in-house to drive the platform. Plumbing & HVAC SEO fits a mechanical trade that wants it managed. Peterson SEO fits restoration. Green Lotus fits Canadian volume. Whichever you pick, the speed side stays on you.

"97% of roofing customers expect a callback within one week. More than 50% expect a callback within two days."

Roofing Contractor Magazine (2024)

More than half want to hear back inside 48 hours. So a retainer that produces thirty extra calls a month is worth nothing if twelve of them wait three days for a callback. Build the response process before you buy the traffic.

Methodology

How this list was built

Every Fervor number in this post traces to the Contractor CRO Index (n=380 scored contractor websites) and the Digital State of the Industry reports for roofing, HVAC and remodeling: 45% of the combined group surfaces a customer testimonial (52.9% HVAC, 48.6% remodeling, 34.6% roofing), and median stated tenure runs 40.5 years in roofing, 41.5 in HVAC and 39 in remodeling. The per-metric definitions and the scoring framework sit on the CRO Index statistics page. Third-party stats come from the Fervor published source list, each one linked to its original source above.

"Best local SEO agency" and "best local SEO agency for contractors" are not the same question. The first rewards firms with strong domain authority and a marketing blog, which is why the SERP for it is full of agencies ranking themselves. The second rewards map pack execution in a trade where the searcher has a flooded basement or a hail-damaged roof and a two-hour patience budget. This list scores the second question.

Scored against: local search specificity (is GBP, Maps, citations or reviews a named service line, or is "local SEO" one bullet under SEO?), contractor-domain depth (home services exclusively, or one industry page among forty?), transparency (published pricing, third-party recognition, verifiable review volume), reporting shape (calls and booked work versus impressions and rankings), and reputation capability (whether reviews are actually managed or just mentioned).

Excluded: paid-media-first firms whose local offer is really Google Ads and LSA management (SearchKings, Summit Digital Marketing), enterprise multi-channel shops with no contractor local specialization (V Digital Services), and trade-specific firms whose published local search work was thinner than the ten above (Foxxr Digital Marketing, LocalFi SEO, Lokal Media House, Locallogy, YDOP, Contractor Growth Network, Homeshowoff). None of those are bad agencies. They're just answering a different question than this page asks.

Acknowledged: Fervor is on this list, ranked first, under the same criteria as every other agency and written up the same way, with both strengths and limitations. Agency claims about pricing, headcount, and results are sourced from those firms' own sites and public profiles, not independently verified.

Ranking well already? Find out what the traffic hits when it lands.

The Contractor CRO Index publishes the scoring framework, the per-brand grades and the trade-level findings the numbers above came from. The State of Roofing, State of HVAC and State of Remodeling reports break the patterns down trade by trade. And if you want your own site scored against the same framework, the Site Inspection returns a specific list of structural gaps in about three days. More agency rankings and research are published as they're finished.

Questions to ask before hiring a contractor local SEO agency

How can a contractor company rank higher in Google Maps?

A contractor company generally needs a strong Google Business Profile, consistent business information, relevant local reviews, locally relevant website content and enough authority to compete in its market. The website and the Google Business Profile should reinforce the same services and locations rather than functioning as separate marketing assets.

Why is my contractor company not showing in the Google Map Pack?

Poor Map Pack visibility usually comes from weak relevance, distance from the searcher, insufficient prominence, incomplete Google Business Profile information, weak reviews or simply stronger local competitors. Website content, local links and service-area relevance also influence how clearly Google understands the business.

Can a contractor company rank in a city without having an office there?

Organic rankings in nearby service areas are achievable without an office in every city, but map visibility is far more constrained by physical proximity. Contractors expanding into multiple cities usually need genuine service-area content rather than the same city page duplicated dozens of times.

How important is Google Business Profile for a contractor company?

For local contractors it is often the single most important customer-acquisition asset, because it puts the company directly into local and Maps results. It should accurately represent services, service areas, contact information, reviews, photos and operating details.

Should a contractor company create multiple Google Business Profiles?

Only legitimate locations that meet Google’s eligibility requirements should have their own profile. Creating fake or virtual locations to widen Map Pack coverage carries real suspension risk and is not a substitute for a proper multi-location strategy.

Does a contractor company need a page for every city it serves?

Not necessarily. A location page earns its place when the company can say something genuinely specific about that market. Publishing hundreds of near-identical pages with the city name swapped produces a large site without producing much additional value.

What should a good contractor location page include?

It should explain the services available in that market, demonstrate local experience, answer location-specific questions and give a clear route to call, request an estimate or book service. Real projects, service-area details, reviews and local proof make the page substantially more useful than generic city copy.

Are service pages or city pages more important for contractor SEO?

They do different jobs. Service pages establish what the contractor does; location pages establish where. Strong local SEO usually needs an architecture that connects both rather than a choice between them.

How long does local SEO take for a contractor company?

Meaningful improvement usually takes months rather than weeks, particularly in competitive markets. The timeline depends on the site’s existing authority, Google Business Profile strength, competition, technical issues and how much relevant content already exists.

Fervor's full cross-trade dataset lives in the CRO Index statistics.
